Black Lives Matter.

Dear Listeners,

In the spirit of this podcast, Fully Yours, we come before you with heavy hearts as we reflect on our hurting world. 2020 was initially marked by Australian wildfires. Covid-19 has claimed the lives of over 100,000 in the States and upwards of 370,000 worldwide. We are contending with grief and personal and collective trauma of those who have been most impacted by those deaths, including families of color who have been disproportionately affected and the first responders who have tended to the sick and dying. And we come before you with humble hearts recognizing our white privilege in a racist world as we mourn the loss of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and so many black and brown folks who were killed by systems of racism that are very much alive.

In this time of unrest in our country, we confess that we have been complicit in systems of racism and oppression. We confess that we have not done all we can to declare that black lives matter. And we confess that we have much work to do.

As we began planning this new season of Fully Yours, it was our initial intention to provide a place of respite and rest from coronavirus coverage. We hoped to provide a place where we could set the sorrow aside and be present to the food on our tables and to each other in deep conversations that had nothing to do with the news.

But now, we recognize just how much work there is to do. While we continue to meet around the table as three young white women, we commit to having difficult conversations about white privilege, systemic racism, and implicit bias. We will strive to center voices of color, particularly those in the culinary, environmental, agricultural, and food justice sectors. And we hope that, while this may not be a place of respite, it may be a place of honesty and growth, humility and learning.

Black lives matter.

Let’s get to work.

With love from the Fully Yours podcast Team,

Chloe, Christy, and Eva
